Emelec incorporates Mauro Quiroga for the entire 2022 season; Facundo Barceló would be destined for Chile

The arrival of Quiroga in the next few days means the departure of Uruguayan Barceló, who has already fulfilled his contract.

Emelec announced this Sunday the hiring for the entire 2022 season of Argentine center forward Mauro Quiroga, which in projections implies the non-continuity of Uruguayan attacker Facundo Barceló, who after fulfilling his contract as a millionaire until last December 31 would be destined for Chile.

“The Argentine attacker Mauro Quiroga joins Professor Rescalvo’s squad,” Emelec published on his website.

Quiroga, 32 years old and 1.91 m tall, becomes the first offensive signing in the current transfer window. The Albiceleste has played in leagues in Argentina, Spain, Chile and Mexico, precisely where he played in 2021 defending the Necaxa shirt.

He excelled in the Clausura 2021 tournament scoring two goals in 13 regular season games. But in the Apertura tournament, in the second half of the year, he did not convert in 15 games played.

According to Transfermarkt, Quiroga in the entire 2021 campaign of the MX League with Necaxa accumulated 31 performances, being 12 times he started and 6 times as a substitute. He scored two goals throughout the year, between the Clausura and Apertura tournament.

His best campaign with the Rays was that of 2019, when he was the scorer of the Apertura tournament with 12 goals, a title shared with Alan Pulido.

“Coming from Necaxa, with more than 100 goals in his record and 32 years old, he will join the Bombillo preseason in the coming days,” says the statement on the Emelec website.

His career consists of stages for UD Las Palmas and CD Lugo, from Spain. Between them, he has 61 games in three campaigns (2010-2011, 2011-2012 and 2012-2013) and 15 goals. It has not been an absolute international.

So far, the ex officio strikers that Emelec has for 2022 are the Ecuadorian Alejandro Cabeza and the Argentine Quiroga.

According to a Chilean press report, Uruguayan Barceló has been asked by Colo-Colo’s coach, Gustavo Quinteros. (D)
