Candidate for the head of the IOC Lapartians about transgender people: the body remembers who was before
The presidential candidate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the head of the International Cyclists Union, David Lapartian, spoke about the participation of transgender people in women’s competitions. It is quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, the problem is being discussed with women, doctors and scientists. “We decided that if it is even possible to regulate the level of testosterone, this may affect fair sport. The second – the body remembers who it was before, ”he said.
Lapartian noted that the IOC allows federations to independently solve this issue. So, in cycling, transgender people are not allowed in women’s races. “And we must discuss this issue at the IOC session. Either we create some rules that should be discussed in the federations, or we make a direct decision regarding the Olympic Games, ”he added.
At the Olympic Games-2024 in Paris, a scandal broke out because of this. The winner of the competition in women’s boxing was the failed gender test of the Algerian boxing Iman Helif.
