Denisov about the naturalization of foreign football players: I don’t understand why we are Brazilians
Former Russian national team player Igor Denisov in an interview with the YouTube channel Viti Kravchenko criticized the naturalization of foreign football players.
Denisov admitted that he did not understand why to give passports to the Brazilians, who then occupy the places of Russians. “They are cool football players, cool guys, funny, with technical equipment. And the question, why do we need them? Where are we moving? For what? Do we have a 140-million country, we cannot raise 20 of our players there? ” – He asked questions.
Earlier, the former defender of CSKA and the USSR national team Vladimir Ponomarev also condemned the distribution of Russian citizenship to foreign players. In his opinion, it turned out to be meaningless.
In October 2024, the Brazilian defender of the St. Petersburg Zenit Douglas Santos received Russian citizenship. It was also called up to the national team to prepare for friendly matches in March 2025.
