In crisis, Barcelona faces Valencia for the Spanish Championship

Living one of the worst moments in its history, Barcelona has a complicated challenge this weekend for the ninth round of the Spanish Championship. Barça host Valencia at Camp Nou needing a win to reach the top of the leaderboard.

The two teams have 12 points and are two behind the Champions League qualifying zone. But still far from Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, who share the lead with Real Sociedad, all with 17 points. But meringues and athletics had their games postponed due to the Champions League.

If they win a victory, Barcelona recover from the 2-0 defeat by Atlético de Madrid and gain morale for the next challenges.

“It’s going to be a very complicated duel. Valencia has a qualified team that also wants to fight for big things this season. It will be another decision that the Spanish Championship has in store for us,” said Ronald Koeman, Barcelona coach.

Also on Sunday, Sevilla, who have 14 points and defend their position in the Champions Leaague classification zone, will go to the Balaídos Stadium, in Vigo, to measure forces with Celta. The rival has seven points and wants to move away from the danger area.

On Saturday Real Sociedad has the chance to isolate themselves in the lead. For that they need to beat Mallorca at the Anoeta Stadium, in San Sebastián. The task will not be the easiest, as the rival has 11 points and dreams of the Europa League. If Real Sociedad wins, it will put pressure on the leaders who took a break.
