Vasiliev said that boxer Khelif filed a lawsuit against Musk and Rowling over money
Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Dmitry Vasiliev explained the decision of Algerian boxer Iman Khelif, who failed the gender test, to file a lawsuit for cyberbullying after winning the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
He called the athlete a man who wants to make money. “I think the lawyers who were around this boxer advised him to file a lawsuit, what if something works out? They said: “Even if you get one or two million euros, that would be great,” Vasiliev said.
The lawsuit filed by Khelif with the center for combating online hate at the Paris prosecutor’s office became known on August 14. It includes the names of British writer and creator of the Harry Potter series of books, J.K. Rowling, and American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association suspended Khelif during the World Championships for failing to meet the eligibility criteria. The results of a gender test showed that the athlete has XY chromosomes and elevated testosterone levels. However, the International Olympic Committee allowed her to compete in the 2024 Games, where she won. Her performance drew public criticism.
