Sensation! The 17-year-old is the world champion in chess! Duda in the strict lead

103 players and 176 players competed in the rapid chess tournament in Warsaw. At the PGE National Stadium the triumphs were: Nodirbek Abdusattorow (the only one who defeated at the tournament) in the open category and Aleksandra Kostieniuk in the women’s tournament. The final success in the open tournament had to be decided by the tie-break, played between Nodirbek Abdusattorow and. Magnus Carlsen came third, fifth. The Pole had his chances in the last thirteenth round, but he tied and lost his chances for a medal.

– The last draw is very bitter, the end was a rook with a pawn more, which looked like a complete win, at least that’s how I judged it then – says Jan-Krzysztof Duda.

– Unfortunately, it was not that simple, it was probably won, but you had to play with black very specifically, which was additionally difficult, because I had a very poor time. Nevertheless, it was close to winning which would have given me a better place for sure. Well, I still have a blitz, I hope to be able to take a higher place. I was playing in the lead all the time, I lost two games with the champion and the runner-up, if I was losing, it was with them. Losing always hurts, no matter who you play with, Magnus or someone else. Summing up my performance, I can be satisfied with the game itself, I won a lot of white games, there were few games in which I released something real, except for the last round, I think. Rapid chess is over, the rapid chess starts tomorrow, which I prefer, I have great expectations, just like everyone else here. Time will verify them – added the Pole.

Morawiecki: The popularity of chess is also growing thanks to Duda

During the championship in Warsaw, the Congress of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) also debated. There was also a very important meeting between the authorities of the world federation and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. It allows us to realistically think about fulfilling the dreams of the Polish chess community about organizing the largest event in the world.

– We are very happy that the organization of the world championship and the congress of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Warsaw made it possible to meet at the highest level – says Ɓukasz Turlej, Vice President of FIDE. –

– FIDE President Arkadij Dvorkovich met with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The conversation lasted much longer than planned and was conducted in a very friendly atmosphere. It concerned the tightening of cooperation and possible next big events that we would like to conduct in our country. We also talked about the increasing involvement of our representatives in FIDE and in pilot projects. The popularity of chess in Poland at all levels, in schools, whether amateur or professional, is very high. We dream about a world championship match played in our country, maybe one day with the participation of a Pole. Certainly, our next goal will be to fight to host the Chess Olympics in 2026, an event unique in the chess world. This is a great event with representatives from 180 countries around the world playing in one tournament for two weeks – adds Turlej.

– The end of the year is a great time for Polish chess, we recently hosted the European Championships, now the World Championships are taking place in Warsaw – emphasizes Morawiecki. – I would like to thank the president of FIDE for choosing Poland as the host of these events and for giving the opportunity to host the best chess players from all over the world. We do everything to make the tournament run smoothly and in full safety. Poland has huge chess traditions and a large community that loves this sport. There are almost 100,000 registered players in our country and this number is growing. The popularity of chess is also growing thanks to Jan-Krzysztof Duda, whose great results we are proud of
