Rider Dujardin to miss 2024 Olympics over horse abuse video
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has temporarily suspended three-time Olympic champion and British record-breaking rider Charlotte Dujardin from the 2024 Olympics for animal cruelty, The Telegraph reports, citing the FEI press service.
The FEI received a video recording of the athlete hitting the horse’s hindquarters with a whip 24 times in one minute. She was suspended from competition for six months.
Later, the rider herself announced her refusal to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris because of the video. The Briton noted that the recording was made four years ago, in which she makes an “error in judgment” during training.
Dujardin is the most decorated British Olympian. In addition to her three gold medals, she has won a silver and two bronze medals in dressage at the Games. She is also a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
