Aston Villa announced on Monday the signing of 22-year-old Amadou Onana from Everton, who paid £50 million (around R$357 million) plus bonuses.
The signing comes after the departure of Brazilian Douglas Luiz to Juventus. The Birmingham team are placing their hopes on the Belgian to fill this gap.
Onana joins Villa after making 37 appearances for Everton last season. Manager Unai Emery was keen to have him in the squad ahead of the Champions League campaign.
When asked about what attracted him to the Aston Villa project, Onana did not hide his admiration for the club: “Everything, a bit of everything I think. There is a healthy environment to grow as a player and also as a man,” he said.

Called up by Belgium to compete in the Euro Cup, the midfielder was a starter in all of the team’s matches in the tournament, being eliminated by France in the round of 16.
Aston Villa have already signed two central midfielders this summer in Juventus’ Enzo Barrenechea and Luton Town’s Ross Barkley. Onana arrives as the club’s eighth signing for the 2024/25 season.
