Head of the Union of Journalists of Russia Solovyov: France violates laws on freedom of speech and freedom of the press
France is violating its own laws and the declared freedom of speech and freedom of dissemination of information, believes the head of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) Vladimir Solovyov. This is how he responded to France’s refusal to allow some Russian journalists to the 2024 Olympic Games in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“As I recently stated, [президент Франции Эммануэль] “When Macron was asked not to interfere with RT’s work in France, he said that all Russian journalists are propagandists, while French journalists are all real journalists. It seems that they really believe in their own propaganda and thus violate the laws on freedom of the press,” Solovyov said.
According to the head of the Union of Journalists of Russia, it is unlikely that the French authorities will be able to change their minds on this issue.
“As for the broadcast of the Olympics, as far as I heard, the main Russian channels will not broadcast the Olympics. But for those who want to see it, to see some competitions, there are channels in cable TV packages or you can watch it on the Internet. That is, if you want to, you will be able to find the broadcast,” he concluded.

Earlier, France denied some Russian journalists the right to cover the 2024 Olympic Games. This was stated by the country’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. He said that due to suspicions of espionage and the transfer of information to foreign countries, less than a hundred applications from media representatives were rejected. The Interior Minister added that the precautionary principle was applied in this way.
