Days after the game against Brazil, Uruguay issued a brief statement saying Araújo had been substituted due to a “physical problem.” The Uruguayan Football Association’s delay in detailing the defender’s problem has Barcelona concerned about the severity of the injury.

Araújo is expected to arrive in Barcelona next week to undergo further tests. Once the severity of the injury is determined, the Spanish club will draw up a recovery schedule.
Ronald Araújo has been a Uruguayan player since his youth career. The defender first played for the country’s senior team in 2020. Since then, he has played 20 matches and scored two goals. Last season for Barcelona, the 25-year-old made 37 appearances and scored one goal.
