Scaloni highlights the price of Argentina’s success as Copa América finalist

With a goal from Messi, Argentina beat Canada this Tuesday (9) by 2 to 0 in East Rutherford (New Jersey) in the semifinals of the America Cup United States-2024 and will play its thirtieth final in the history of the tournament.

The ‘Albiceleste’, who are defending the continental title, emerged victorious at the MetLife Stadium with goals from Julián Álvarez, in the 23rd minute, and Messi at the start of the second half (52′), in a match in which the Argentine captain proved to be more active and influential after recovering from discomfort in his right thigh.

“It’s very difficult to reach another final and especially in the way we’re getting there, with all the praise and all the success,” said Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni in a press conference.

“Those of us who are there know very well how much it costs to get there, so there is a feeling of happiness but also of concern because everything costs a lot more and the level is very high,” he acknowledged.

A year and a half after being crowned three-time world champions at the Qatar World Cup, Argentina is looking to secure its third consecutive title after the 2021 Copa América in Brazil and the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The Albiceleste awaits the winner of the other semi-final, between Uruguay and Colombia, which will be played this Wednesday at 9pm (Brasília time) in Charlotte (North Carolina).
