Uruguay suffered, but defeated Brazil on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time. In addition, the Uruguayans played the end of the match with one less player, after Nández was sent off. Therefore, for the semi-final match, the player will not be available to the Uruguayan coaching staff.
For the semi-final, La Celeste should have Varela on the side. In addition, defender Ronald Araújo left the field injured and should make way for Giménez.
On the other side, Colombia advanced calmly by beating Panama. The team was the only one that didn’t need penalties in the quarterfinals.
Colombia is trying to return to the Copa América final. This has not happened since 2001, when the team won its only title, on home soil.
