Olympic Champion Privalova: I Will Not Watch the Paris Games on Principle
Olympic 400m hurdles champion Irina Privalova made a categorical statement about the Paris Games. Her words are quoted by TASS.
“As a person who has dedicated her entire life to athletics, I would be very interested in watching the Olympic competitions. But I decided for myself that I will not do this on principle,” Privalova said. She explained this decision by the absence of Russians at the tournament and added that she would familiarize herself with the results of the competitions.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians are allowed to compete as individual neutral athletes. Track and field athletes from Russia will miss the tournament.
In 2015, the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) was suspended from World Athletics due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules by Russians. Domestic athletes could compete in international competitions only after receiving individual permits and in neutral status. In March 2023, membership was restored, while the suspension of Russian athletes from competitions under the auspices of the organization was extended.
