Girmay takes second sprint win at Tour de France

The Eritrean cyclist Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) has won the sprint in the 8th stage of the Tour de France, which was held this Saturday over 183.4 kilometers between Semur-en-Auxois and Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, while the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE) maintains its lead in the general classification without any problems.

At 14.5 kilometers from the finish line, the great breakaway of the day ended, which had had Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) as the main actor. Wearing the red polka dot jersey, being the leader of the mountain classification, the Norwegian had been 140 kilometers riding alone and, in total, 169 kilometers as a fugitive.

With 2.7 kilometres to go, there was a collision in the middle of the pack and a couple of riders escaped the incident by going into the grass on the left side, on a straight of the course. After the scare, the final sprint was launched and Biniam Girmay won the race. Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) already Arnaud De Lie (Lotto), thus achieving his second victory in this edition of the Tour, having also won the stage that ended in Turin.

For his part, the Guipuzcoan Alex Aranburu (Movistar) was ninth ahead of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal). Tadej Pogacar He continues to lead the general classification with a 33-second advantage over Evenepoel and just over a minute over the Dane Jonas Vingegaard (Visma).
