TASS: Russian wrestlers invited by IOC declined to participate in Olympics
Russian wrestlers who received an invitation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to participate in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris have withdrawn from the competition, a source in the Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) told TASS.
As it became known, the corresponding decision was made by the organization’s executive committee, coaching staff and athletes. Earlier, the IOC invited 10 wrestling representatives from Russia to the Games. Two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulaev was not among them.
Earlier, on July 6, the NOC and the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine demanded that the IOC reduce the list of Russian athletes invited to Paris by nine people. Among them were seven wrestlers.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians are allowed to compete as individual neutral athletes.
