Fragale: Releasing Processors for PlayStation 4 Helped AMD Avoid Bankruptcy
AMD managed to avoid bankruptcy thanks to the release of processors for the Sony PlayStation 4 console, which sold well. This was stated by one of the company’s executives, Renato Fragale, in his LinkedIn profile, PlayStation Lifestyle reports.
Fragale stressed that the PlayStation 4, which sold over 91 million units, was one of the company’s most successful projects.
According to him, a team of 15 people worked on the components for the console. PlayStation 4 became the first Sony console with an AMD processor.

The PlayStation 4, which was released in November 2013, received a hybrid processor from AMD. The product, developed jointly with Sony engineers, combines a central and graphic processor, a memory controller, a video decoder and other components.
Earlier in July, Eurogamer reported that the Xbox Series X console’s performance was estimated at 12 teraflops versus the PlayStation 5’s 10.23 teraflops, but in some games the PS5 demonstrated comparable or better performance.
