Russian swimmer Somov, who moved to the US, received an invitation to the Olympic Games from the IOC
Russian swimmer Evgeny Somov, who moved to the United States, has received an invitation to the 2024 Summer Games in Paris from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This was reported on the organization’s website.
Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova declined the offer, but her compatriot, judoka Makhmadbek Makhmadbekov, accepted it.
Earlier, the IOC announced the names of the first Russians admitted to the 2024 Games. The list included eight tennis players. There will be no Russian representatives at the Games in rowing, shooting, or modern pentathlon.
25-year-old Somov lives and trains in the United States. On May 16, at a competition in America, he broke the Russian record in the 100-meter breaststroke. However, the achievement will not be ratified, since the time was shown at a tournament outside the country and not as part of the Russian team.
