Olympic champion reveals attitude to tournaments without Russian figure skaters

Elena Berezhnaya said that she does not follow tournaments without Russian figure skaters

Olympic figure skating champion Elena Berezhnaya has revealed her attitude towards tournaments in which Russian figure skaters do not participate. Her words are quoted by Sport Day by Day.

According to the former athlete, she does not follow such starts. “When ours do not participate, I completely forget about the existence of these competitions. I learn the results later from the news. I specifically looked only at Ilya Malinin, this Russian American,” Berezhnaya noted.

At the 2024 World Championships in March, Russian-American Malinin won the gold medal in men’s singles. He set a world record in the free skate (227.79 points).

Russian figure skaters were banned from competing in tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union in March 2022. The last major competition for domestic athletes was the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
