Midfielder Toni Kroos gave a press conference on Wednesday and spoke about the match between Germany and Spain in the quarterfinals of the European Championship. The game will be played this Friday, at 1 pm (Brasília time), at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. With his retirement already announced, this will be the 34-year-old athlete’s last tournament.
“I hope it’s not my last game,” Kroos said.
The number 8 also commented on the current situation of the German team and revealed that the first objective in the competition has already been achieved. However, he still hopes to complete other goals.
“If you look at the last few months, there have been a lot of doubts about Germany’s ability. We had a minimum target and avoided people talking about a catastrophe, but we have the target of winning the Euros and we will fight for that bonus. We have a lot of ambition to go further,” he said.

The quarter-final match will feature a duel between the two teams with the best records in the competition. Spain has won all of its games and is the only team with a 100% record. Germany is also undefeated and has the best attack in the competition, with ten goals scored.
“There is a lot of quality in both teams. We know Spain. Their strengths and weaknesses. In my opinion, these games have been decided in midfield for a long time. Both teams have a lot of fantastic individuals, but both want to have possession of the ball. We will see what we can do with it,” said Toni.
Kroos could end his career on a high note. Still in contention for the Euros, the midfielder also won the Champions League and the Spanish league with Real Madrid in his last season.
“If I hadn’t had important goals, I wouldn’t have returned to the national team, but I felt it was a golden opportunity to win the Euros with these players. In Madrid, on the other hand, it was about maintaining the same level of success season after season, so I decided to retire.”
