A little over a year after his arrival, Andre Jardine continues to lift trophies and make history at América de México. After securing the club’s first consecutive Mexican championship in 35 years, the Brazilian also celebrated the Campeón de Campeones – automatically won by the team that won Apertura 23 and Clausura 24. And this Sunday (30), in a game played in California, United States, which opens the new Mexican season, América beat Tigres 2-1, in a comeback, and was crowned champion of the Supercopa MX, giving the Brazilian coach his fourth title in just 380 days in office.
Still in the locker room at Dignity Health Sports Park, while celebrating the achievement with the squad, Jardine was informed that he had just been elected Best Coach of the Year by Liga MX, in a vote that covered the period between June 2023 and June 2024 in the country’s football.
“I am very happy with the phase we are experiencing here. Collective achievements inevitably lead to individual recognition, and this has happened to everyone at América, not just me. We have developed a way of playing, with clear concepts of attractive and objective football, and this is what makes me happiest as a coach”, commented André Jardine. “But I am far from satisfied. We must always aspire to more achievements and to do so we must challenge our limits. I know that today we are the team to beat here in Mexico, and the natural tendency is that everyone who comes to face América will play as if they were in a championship final”, predicted the coach.
The success at América, added to the good work previously carried out at Atlético de San Luis and the Olympic title with the Brazilian National Team in Tokyo 2020 have led to Jardine being speculated to succeed Jaime Lozano in command of the Mexican national team, eliminated in the group stage of the Copa América.
“I don’t have much to say about these rumors. I’m flattered, but the team has a very competent coach, who I support, and my job today is here at América. I’m focused on preparing the team to fight for the third Mexican championship,” said the coach.
Back in Mexico City after a week in the United States and still without some of its key players, who are competing in the Copa América with their national teams, América is heading into its final week of preparation before setting off in search of its third championship. The team from the capital will debut in Apertura 24 next Saturday (6),
when visiting Atlético de San Luis, Jardine’s former team, which is now managed by Domènec Torrent, ex-Flamengo.
