It is still a “forbidden connection”, as we learn, certainly in 2022 and 2023. So coaches such as Mendez or Stephane Antiga, who is officially applying for the position of the volleyball team coach and working in the SkyRes Rzeszów development, would have to leave their clubs. The second scenario – president Świderski’s change of mind – is unlikely. It is therefore not difficult to interpret this movement as a clear desire of the trainer to have a certain job. On Sunday, the first information regarding the possible employment of Mendez by Asseco Resovia was published. They were published by the daily “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, and later confirmed by the portal “Web Volei” and sport.onet.pl. According to the latter, the current coach of the Rzeszów team was about to be informed about it. We now know that Alberto Giuliani is leaving the club with immediate effect – in the following days Mendez will be introduced as the team’s new coach and will start working.
For Marcelo Mendez, considered one of the best volleyball coaches in the world, working for Resovia will be the first European career challenge in thirteen years and working at Club Voleibol Portol in Mallorca, where he was from 2005 to 2009. Until 2008, he also worked for the Spanish national team. Later, he was hired by Sada Cruzeiro, which was a bull’s eye for the Brazilian club.
It was with him that Mendez won as many as six Brazilian championships or three club world champions, beating strong clubs from Europe. This year, Mendez won the Tokyo Olympics with the national team, and his team became the Olympic tournament’s biggest sensation.
