Despite the goalless draw, the clash between Peru and Chile went down in Copa América history. Upon entering the field, Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo became the oldest player to play in a match in the competition. The 41 years and 68 days old player surpassed another goalkeeper, Bolivian Carlos Trucco, who entered the field in the 1997 final at 39 years and 322 days old.

Claudio Bravo has been in the Chile national team since 2004. The goalkeeper was part of the country’s “golden generation”, which won the Copa América in 2015 and 2016. If he takes the field in the Chileans’ next match, Bravo will reach the milestone of 150 appearances disputed with “La Roja”.
If Claudio Bravo did not take the field this Friday, the record for the oldest player to play in a Copa América would be broken in the same way. This is because Paolo Guerrero, formerly of Corinthians and Flamengo, entered the match during the second half aged 40 years and 171 days and, therefore, also surpassed Carlos Trucco.
With the draw against Peru, Chile was in third place in Group A, with one point gained. The Chileans’ next match is this Tuesday against Argentina, at the MetLife Stadium, in Nove Jersey, at 10pm (Brasília time).
