Beloki, runner-up in Spain in the men’s elite category time trial; Agirre, champion in the sub’23

The Basque representatives have gotten off to a good start Spanish Cycling Championships that are being held in Madrid. The first test was the individual time trial.
In the elite men’s category, Markel Beloki was second. The cyclist from Vitoria-Gasteiz was the runner-up of the test after completing the 33.4 kilometer route in 39 minutes and 6 seconds; 33 seconds more than the winner David De La Cruz. The bronze medal went to Raúl García Pierna, who finished the time trial 36 seconds behind the champion. He is also from Vitoria Oier Lazkano was fourth with a time of 39 minutes and 11 seconds. Txomin Juaristi (39’29”) finished fifth.
On the same route, the best news for Basque cycling has come in the men’s sub’23 category: Aitor Agirre has been proclaimed champion of Spain with a time of 40 minutes and 55 seconds. Alberto Fernández was second at 19 seconds and Luis García was third at 20 seconds.
In the elite category women’s time trial, the Basques Lourdes Oyarbide and Usoa Ostoloza were sixth and seventh respectively at 2 minutes and 2 minutes and 55 seconds of the winner Mireia Benito. Sandra Alonso was second, 15 seconds behind the winner and Mavi García was third, 18 seconds behind Benito. Ziortza Isasi from Biscay was twelfth.
In the under-23 women’s category, the Basques Eneritz Vadillo and Nahia Imaz finished second and third respectively.. Vadillo finished the course 31 seconds behind the winner Paula Blasi, while Nahia Imaz needed one minute and 39 seconds more than the champion to complete the course.
