He Basque Museum of Baiona celebrates its hundred years of life in 2024, which is why today, June 21, it has inaugurated the first exhibition about its history, “100 urte jadanik! Museoa bere mendean”. The exhibition can be visited until January 4, 2026, and is made up of more than 200 objects.
The museum was inaugurated in 1924, after the success obtained by an exhibition in Donibane Lohizune on work tools, and they chose the Dagourette house, used in the 17th century as a convent and hospital, for it.
The Basque Museum has combined art and ethnography since its inception, paying special attention, of course, to Basque culture.
In October, it will host another exhibition as part of the special centenary programme. “Obra gomitatuak, bilduma iraunkorrean” can be visited from October 18 to January 5, and will be made up of about 40 works of art, most of them paintings, bequeathed by large museums and libraries.
