Southgate laments England’s anxiety against Denmark

England tied against Denmark (1-1) this Thursday (20), in Frankfurt, and will have to wait until the last round to secure a place in the round of 16 of the Euro-2024.

Star Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute from a Kyle Walker cross, but Morten Hjulmand equalized in the 34th with a long-range shot.

“Our performance was increasingly anxious and we have to make progress on that if we want to go far in the tournament,” lamented Southgate during the post-match press conference.

“I won’t say we are disappointed, but it’s a shame. We could have achieved a better result,” said Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand after the match.

With four points, England leads Group C, ahead of Denmark (2 points), Slovenia (2 points) and Serbia (1 point).

The English will compete against Slovenia in the third and final round on Tuesday, the 25th, while the Danes will face Serbia on the same day and time (4pm Brasília time).

This game was a repeat of the 2021 semi-final, won by an exciting English team (2-1 after extra time).

In the current edition of the tournament, England had already left doubts in the air last Sunday after a lackluster victory over Serbia (1-0), but arrived in Frankfurt with the possibility of guaranteeing qualification for the round of 16 which would silence the criticism.
