The Athletic: Datsyuk and Mogilny are the main candidates for inclusion in the NHL Hall of Fame

Russians Pavel Datsyuk and Alexander Mogilny are the leading candidates for inclusion in the National Hockey League (NHL) Hall of Fame in 2024. This is the conclusion reached by The Athletic.

The publication’s journalists created their own “committee” of 18 employees who voted according to the scheme used to select members of the real Hockey Hall of Fame. 14 votes are required to enter. As a result of the simulation, Datsyuk and Mogilny received the most votes.

One of The Athletic’s correspondents, Max Baltman, shared his memories of Datsyuk. “What I remember most about him is his incredible hands and hockey sense. He played in a low-scoring era, so his statistical numbers may seem deceptively low,” the journalist noted.

Datsyuk left for the NHL in 2001. He spent his entire overseas career with the Detroit Red Wings. The Russian defended the colors of the club until 2016, during which time he helped Detroit win the Stanley Cup twice. He was a four-time NHL All-Star. In total, Datsyuk has 953 matches in the league, in which he scored 918 points (314 goals scored and 604 assists).

Mogilny played in the NHL from 1989 to 2006. Over the years, he played for the Buffalo Sabers, Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2000, together with New Jersey, the Russian won the Stanley Cup. In total, in his NHL career, Mogilny took part in 1032 matches, in which he scored 990 points (473 goals and 559 assists). In addition, he was selected to the league’s All-Star Game six times.

The NHL Hall of Fame was founded in 1943. Currently, it includes eight Russian and Soviet hockey players: Valery Kharlamov, Alexander Yakushev, Vladislav Tretyak, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Igor Larionov, Pavel Bure, Sergei Zubov, Sergei Fedorov and Sergei Makarov.
