As a child, Anna Mucha heard disgusting words from a nun. “To the river!”

Anna Mucha is known for her colorful language and expressive statements, as well as for her television, film and theater roles. The actress willingly speaks out on important social issues. During a discussion about the place of religion lessons, she recalled what she had heard from a catechist years ago.

she went to primary school in the 1980s. The actress, like the vast majority of children at that time, also did not miss religion lessons, although they were not held in public schools at that time – only after 1990 did these classes become available in public institutions. Anna Mucha attended her classes in a catechetical room at one of the Warsaw churches. There she met a nun who did not have a good opinion of people who did not send their children to religious education.

Religious classes in church halls were not controlled by public educational authorities at that time. What happened behind the closed doors of the catechetical hall did not always meet any standards. Anna Mucha experienced this with her own ears when one of the nuns made a remark about people who did not attend religion classes – at that time a significant minority of citizens:

Little Ania went to religion classes here and what did I learn?!? It’s unbelievable – she said in an Instagram story while moving through Warsaw. – Parents who do not take their children to religious lessons should have a millstone hung around their necks and thrown into the river – said Anna Mucha. – Merciful in its full form…

Anna Mucha has been declaring herself an atheist for years. Although she attended religious classes in primary school, she says, she went to Communion because of the white dress. In 2007, she gave an interview to the website rationalista.pl, in which she confessed that she believed “in herself, other people, airbags and investment funds.” She does not speak publicly about her children’s faith – “it’s their private matter,” she replied on social media. She did not decide to baptize them, so in the future her children will have full freedom to express their beliefs and faith.
