The problem of spoiled food affects many households. The remains of pasta, potatoes or soups usually end up in the toilet bowl, where they are flushed into the sewage system. Is this the right place? Mostly we don’t think about it, but sometimes it leads to a reduction in our wallet.

Soup prepared “in advance” in large quantities is not always consumed. Sometimes we don’t feel like eating it for dinner several days in a row, and then it goes bad when left in the fridge. What to do with it? When I want to get rid of leftovers quickly and easily, it usually ends up in the toilet. However, it turns out that this behavior can lead to several problems. This may not only contribute to clogging of drain pipes (which may result in sewage breaking out and flooding the apartment), but also damage the sewage systems.. Grease deposited on the pipe walls reduces their diameter, creating blockages. Even if you get rid of the vegetables and pour only the liquid into the bowl, you can reduce their patency.
Where do we throw away spoiled food? It depends
Unfortunately, despite our sincere intentions, we are not always able to avoid wasting. Therefore, it is worth knowing how to dispose of food waste wisely. If we approach this topic responsibly, we will avoid, for example, the costs of possible bathroom renovation. Where should you throw away food that is unfit for eating?

- Make your own composter. Most leftovers can be turned into excellent fertilizer. Even if you live in an apartment building, you can produce it, because there are special, small composters intended for apartments available on the market.
- Bio-waste container (brown). If you don’t want to compost your waste yourself, put it in the brown bin. We can throw, among others, into this container: coffee grounds, peelings and vegetable soups.
- Mixed waste container. This should include leftovers of animal and plant origin that are not suitable for composting, e.g. flour, groats, pasta or rice.
