Barcelona will host the start of the Tour de France in 2026

Barcelona will welcome the departure of Tour de France 2026, as announced this Tuesday at a press conference by the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, who described the news as “a dream come true that confirms the vocation of Barcelona as an international sports capital.” Therefore, the Catalan capital will take over from Florencewhich will host the departure of Tour in the 2024 edition, and Lillefrom where the race will start in 2025.
The announcement has culminated with the formal signing of the agreement between the mayor of Barcelona and the director of Tour de France, Christian Prudhommealso present at the event and who highlighted “the persistent work” of the Catalan capital to finally achieve the ‘Grand Départ’ of the French race.
On several occasions, the city of Barcelona hosted some stage of the Tour and the last presence of ‘La Grande Boucle‘ was in 2009, when two days took place on July 9 and 10, with the end of the sixth stage between Girona and Barcelona and the departure of the seventh stage, ending in Andorra.
The city was also the official exit of The Return 23.
