The Georgian national team lost to Turkey in the first round match of the Euro 2024 group stage. This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, June 18, in Dortmund and ended with the victory of the Turkish team with a score of 3:1. In the 25th minute, Mert Muldur scored the first goal. Seven minutes later, striker Georges Mikautadze restored equality by scoring the first Euro goal in the history of the Georgian national team. In the 65th minute, Arda Guler scored with a long-range strike. The final score in second-half stoppage time was set by Kerem Akturkoglu, who scored into an empty net after Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili went into the opponent’s penalty area in an attempt to help his team score.

Before the match, Turkish and Georgian fans fought at the Signal Iduna Park stadium. Footage that appeared online shows fans of the two teams fighting on the border of the arena sectors and throwing foreign objects at each other.

Euro 2024 takes place in ten cities in Germany from June 14 to July 14. Georgia is the only debutant in the tournament.
