The British cyclist Adam Yates (UAE) was crowned in Cari this Thursday in the fifth stage of the Tour of Switzerland 2024 after crossing the finish line first, overcoming a tough end of the stage with 10 km of ascending slope. With two kilometers to go, Yates attacked to escape his pursuers and reinforce his lead in the general classification to keep the yellow jersey. Second has been his teammate Joao Almeida and third Egan Bernal (INEOS).

Of the escape of the day, the last to be hunted was the Colombian from the Movistar Team Einer Rubio, 11 kilometers from the finish line and already on the final climb. There were attempts to break up the platoon again, like the one carried out by Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier Tech) and Matteo Badilatti (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), but the group of favorites gave them no margin.

With 6.5 kilometers to go, the UAE Team Emirates of leader Adam Yates took the reins. The Mexican Isaac del Toro He set a high pace and some of the 20 cyclists who were then in the lead began to fall behind. And at 4.7 kilometers it was Almeida who made the final selection.

As soon as the group was going to the hook, Adam Yates changed the pace 1.6 kilometers from the top and completely broke the group of favorites.

Yates reinforces the lead and now has a 35-second margin over Almeida, with Egan Bernal moving up to third place, 1:11 behind the leader.

This Friday, the sixth stage will once again present a battle in the mountains, starting in Locarno and arriving in Blatten (151.4 kilometers).
