Munich Stadium will show rainbow colors on June 22 and 23 at the European Championship

The Allianz Arena, which will host six Euro 2024 matches (June 14 to July 14), will be lit up in the colors of the rainbow, on the occasion of the Pride Parade organized in the Bavarian capital, UEFA said this Wednesday. fair.

There are no matches scheduled for these dates at the stadium.

“At the request of the Munich Football Arena (the name of the stadium during the competition), the stadium will be lit in the colors of the rainbow on 22 and 23 June,” explained UEFA. During this weekend, Munich will celebrate the Pride Parade, called Christopher Street Day in Germany.

The modern facade of the Munich stadium, illuminated with 300,000 LED lights, can change color to celebrate sporting or cultural events. In this way, it will show the colors of the rainbow flag of the LGBTQIA+ collective on June 22nd and 23rd.

In 2021, Munich was one of the host cities of the European Championship organized in 11 countries. The city asked to light the stadium in rainbow colors for the match between Germany and Hungary, a request rejected by UEFA as representing a “political message”.

The request was made after Hungary voted a law in 2021 that prohibited any allusion to homosexuality in public in front of minors, under penalty of fines.

Germany and Hungary will face each other again in the group stage of Euro 2024 in Stuttgart on June 19.
