Despite having secured qualification to the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores, a phase in which they will face São Paulo, Nacional has not been having a good year. The announcement of the departure occurred one day after the team lost to Cerro 3-0, in a Uruguayan Championship game.
The Uruguayan club has not yet announced Álvaro Recoba’s replacement. Whoever takes on the role will have around two months to prepare for the decisive matches against São Paulo. The first game is scheduled for August 14th, while the return game will be exactly one week later, on the 21st.
At 48 years old, Álvaro Recoba only managed Nacional and Nacional B in his coaching career. As a player, he played for Inter Milan, Torino, Venezia, Danubio and Nacional itself.
