Peskov called statements about Russia’s attempts to discredit the Olympic Games 2024 slander
Press Secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov responded to statements about Russia’s attempts to discredit the 2024 Olympic Games (OG) in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Peskov called Microsoft’s accusations that Russia was allegedly spreading disinformation about the tournament “sweeping criticism and slander.” “This is criticism that has no basis in argument,” he said.
On June 3, Microsoft researchers said that videos were being created in Russia, the purpose of which is to tarnish the reputation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the organizers of the Games. The company also accused Russia of filming fake news stories in different languages that described problems in preparation for the Olympics, including those related to security.
The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
