Magician Grigoriev, who became a European champion, was shocked by how we were received
Russian Vladimir Grigoriev, who won the FISM European Championship of Magic in Italy, admitted that he was slightly shocked by how the illusionists from Russia were received at the tournament. He spoke about the attitude of his foreign colleagues in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“Of course, I’m slightly shocked, because no one expected this. When a Russian illusionist performs in Europe, the likelihood that he will be appreciated in any way seems to be small. But they only think so here, because the way Russian illusionists were received, and there were three of us, cannot be expressed in words. I’ve probably never seen such a warm ovation, such a warm welcome,” the illusionist shared.
On the first day, another Russian magician Artem Shchukin performed in the Comedy Magic category, and he received such applause that no other contestant from other countries had received, Grigoriev recalled. After his performance, the artist also heard thunderous applause from his foreign colleagues, which was very surprising.
“When I went to FISM, I even had some doubts. I thought that there might even be some exclamations or some kind of negative look, but no, these were just some kind of speculation on my part. I didn’t notice anything addressed to me or Russian magicians. On the contrary, I even noticed some kind of friendliness. By the way, politics probably doesn’t play any role in our art,” said Lenta.ru’s interlocutor.
If at a European competition a Russian illusionist takes first place, and a second Russian illusionist takes second place, that says something

He also said that he did not experience any problems with admission to the championship, unlike another magician Ilya Ilyin, who was denied a visa. “These are moments that, unfortunately, we cannot predict; they can refuse for any reason: you signed a document incorrectly somewhere, some point is superfluous, you understand how it works. You need to be very careful and attentive in this regard, and apply for a visa a long time before departure, so that you have time so that you can more correctly prepare the documents and apply again,” added Grigoriev.

According to him, there were many participants at the European championship. All of them previously won competitions in their countries. Now those who won the European tournament have received the right to participate in the World Magic Championship, which will be held in Italy in 2025.
This can be compared to the Olympic Games in sports, only for magicians it is FISM. This is the level of competition
