Milan made it official this Friday morning that Italian coach Stefano Pioli will leave the club at the end of the European season. He has been in charge of the team since October 2019.
“Milan thanks Stefano Pioli and his entire committee for leading the first team over the last five years, securing an unforgettable Serie A title and re-establishing Milan’s consistent presence in major European competitions. Stefano’s professionalism and human touch contributed significantly to the growth of the squad, embodying the club’s fundamental values from day one”, was written in Milan’s statement.
In these five seasons, Pioli’s main achievement at Milan was winning the Italian Championship, in 2021/2022, breaking the club’s 11-year fast. Furthermore, he led the Italian team to the Champions League semi-finals in the 2022/2023 season.
This season, the team did not achieve many positive results. Milan were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League and in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. In the Italian Championship, the Rossoneros appear in second place and have no more chances of becoming champions.
Pioli’s farewell will take place this Saturday, at 3:45 pm (Brasília time), when Milan hosts Salernitana for the 38th and final round of the Italian Championship.
