The Amorebieta player, Xabier Etxeita, will retire at the end of the current 2023-2024 season. He debuted in the First Division in 2008 and after 16 years he has decided to hang up his boots.
Xabier Etxeita, Amorebieta player, retires after finishing the 2023-2024 season. The one from Amorebieta announced the decision this Friday, May 24, through a video published on the club’s official account on the social network ‘X’
Etxeita, from 36 years, a native of Amorebieta-Etxano, will end his professional career in his town’s team. A player trained at Amorebieta, he jumped into the youth academy of Athletic Club (Lezama) in 2006 to play with Bilbao Athletic. He debuted with Athletic Club’s first team on November 12, 2008 in a match against Recreativo de Huelva. He was at Athletic until 2010, and in January of the 2009-2010 season he left on loan to Cartagena. Later, he signed for Elche for the 2010-2011 season, where he remained three seasons performing at a high level, and on July 1, 2013 he returned to Athletic, as a signing. He was in the red and white team until the 2018-2019 season; However, he spent the 2018-2019 season on loan at the Huesca. In 2021 he signed for the Getafe, and stayed two seasons at the Madrid club. Afterwards, he played the 2021-2022 season at Eibar, and since September 2022 he has been at Amorebieta.
Now, he has decided to end his professional career. Xabier Etxeita’s last objective will be to stay with Amorebieta in the last two days of the Hypermotion League.
