Athlete Sergei Shubenkov said that he was disappointed in the Olympic movement
World champion in hurdles Sergei Shubenkov spoke about his attitude towards the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by TASS.
The athlete admitted that he does not plan to watch the competition. “I am absolutely disappointed in the Olympic movement. I’m very upset, because before the Olympics were something high for me, it’s not about money. I believed that it really unites the whole world,” Shubenkov said.
On December 8 last year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris in a neutral status. At the same time, the head of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, said that Russian track and field athletes will miss the Olympics.
Shubenkov is the 2015 world champion in the 110-meter hurdles, Russian record holder and three-time European champion at this distance. The Russian was among the participants in the 2020 Olympics, but was unable to start the qualifying race due to injury.
