Coach José Mourinho declared that he was against the use of video referees in football. The Portuguese coach spoke about the subject at the Digital Wellbeing Summit, an event held in Saudi Arabia.
“It’s killing the excitement of football. We cannot wait five minutes for a decision. I’m on the bench now and I don’t even celebrate goals anymore. I’m known for some silly celebrations: sliding on my knees, running 50 meters… Right now, I don’t celebrate. I just pray that someone in a room makes a decision and says whether it’s a goal or not”, said Mourinho.
The famous coach also spoke about the new semi-automatic offside feature. According to Mourinho, it is easy to distort the frames and lines that indicate irregularities in a play.
“The semi-automatic offside is more or less objective, because they can change the frames and you know very well how to do that. If you are a referee in a black room with some screens, you will know how to do that. If you are an Al-Ittihad fan , put another frame. If you’re an Al-Ahli fan, put another one”, said Mourinho, jokingly.
Mourinho has been without a club since January, when he left Roma. The Portuguese coach has spent time at clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
