Davankov did not agree with Wiener’s criticism of athletes wishing to compete at the Olympic Games
Vice Speaker of the State Duma, former Russian presidential candidate from the New People party, Vladislav Davankov, responded to the criticism of the head of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, Irina Viner, against athletes who want to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by Metaratings.
Davankov noted that he definitely disagrees with the coach. “I believe that an athlete deserves and deserves to show the best result, because everyone knows what country they are from. If there is an opportunity, we should participate,” he said.
Earlier, Wiener called neutral athletes at the Games in Paris “homeless.” The head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, also criticized Russian tennis players who want to compete at the Olympic Games. He called them a team of foreign agents.
The Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status.
