Austria will be without its captain, David Alaba, injured and outside the list of 29 players announced this Tuesday by coach Ralf Rangnick for Euro-2024 (which will be played from June 14th to July 14th).
Victim of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a Real Madrid match in December, the defender has not fully recovered and will therefore miss the European Championship, but the Austrian captain will be present accompanying his teammates in their preparation for the European tournament.
Alabala, who also plays left back and midfielder, will join the Austrian national team “on June 4 or 5,” Rangnick said.
From his list of 29 names, the coach will have to discard at least three by June 7th to form the final group that will compete in the continental tournament in Germany.
Austria is in group D along with France, Poland and the Netherlands.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer will join the group after the Champions League final, which will be played on June 1st against Real Madrid, at Wembley, England.
