The head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, announced that the Conga (Newmont) project, located in Cajamarca, is going ahead, and therefore, they will seek social consensus to move it forward.
“In Cajamarca we have great social work to do, both on the side of the State and the companies. We are not going to allow Conga, Galeno, Michiquillay, among others, to not be allowed to produce”noted at the XV International Mining Meeting organized by the SNMPE.
It is worth adding that as of March of this year, gold production grew 7.6% compared to the same period in 2023 and exports grew by 33.9%, according to the Minem Mining Statistical Bulletin.
Mucho added that with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) they are evaluating the construction of railways in Cajamarca and Apúrimac for the transportation of minerals, and with this, national production will be valued.
