French Sports Minister calls for punishment for Monaco player who spoke out against homophobia

The French Sports Minister, Amélie Oudéa-Castera, called for punishment for Malian player Mohamed Camara and Monaco for covering the anti-homophobia logo printed on the team’s shirt in the game against Nantes in the French Championship with a sticker.

“Behavior like this must be punished with the firmest sanctions, against the player and against the club, which allowed it”, explained Oudéa-Castera this Monday (20).

The minister called Camara’s attitude “inadmissible”. “I was able to tell the Professional Football League (LFP) what I think about this,” she added.

During the 34th and final round of the French Championship, Mohamed Camara, who scored one of the goals from the penalty spot in Monaco’s 4-0 victory over Nantes, stuck adhesive tape over the logo against homophobia that all players, coaches and referees used on Sunday, in an LFP campaign against discrimination.

The midfielder also did not pose for the official photo of the two teams gathered before the game next to the symbol of the fight against homophobia.
