They wanted to impose sanctions on Monaco player Kamara for covering up the LGBT emblem
French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera called for the Monaco football club to be punished for the refusal of team player Mohamed Camara to participate in an LGBT event (the international LGBT public movement is recognized as extremist and is banned in the Russian Federation). RTL reports this.
During the 34th round of the French championship, an action was carried out: the players’ uniforms were marked with an inscription about the fight against homophobia, and the tournament logo located on the sleeve was painted in rainbow colors. Kamara covered the images with black tape and refused to take a team photo next to the theme banner.
Udea-Castera called the player’s behavior unacceptable. “I believe that the strictest sanctions should be imposed not only on the player, but also on the club that allowed this to happen,” the minister said.
In the 2022/2023 season, a number of foreign football players also refused to participate in LGBT actions. “I deeply regret that in France we do not have 100 percent of players who adhere to this principle of non-discrimination,” Oudea-Castera said at the time.
