This Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen beat Augsburg 2-1, at the BayArena, in the last round of the German Championship. Thus, the club won the title undefeated, something unprecedented in the competition. Coach Xabi Alonso held a press conference after the triumph and celebrated the historic feat.
“We will never forget this day. It is fully deserved. In the end we are undefeated. That was a clear objective for us. After the game against Bremen, we knew we could achieve great things! I am really proud of the team,” he said.

With 90 points achieved, Bayer Leverkusen also had the second best campaign in the history of the Bundesliga, behind only Bayern Munich, who were champions with 91 points in 2013. Alonso regretted not breaking the record, but praised their unbeaten record.
“Reaching 90 points is extremely important. The record is 91, we narrowly missed that, but remaining undefeated is extraordinary. This achievement is notable not only in Germany but also in Europe,” he said.
Leverkusen ended the competition with 28 wins and six draws. In total, 89 goals were scored and only 24 conceded. Now, the team focuses on the two finals ahead: Europa League and German Cup.
The first decision will be made this Wednesday, at 4pm (Brasília time), against Atalanta, in the Europa League. The ball will roll at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin, Ireland.
In the national cup, Bayer will face Kaiserslautern next Saturday, at 3pm, at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
