Premier League clubs set to vote on abolishing VAR from next season
English Premier League (EPL) clubs are set to vote on whether to abolish video assistant referees (VAR) from next season. Sky Sports reports this.
“After five seasons of VAR in the Premier League, it is time for a constructive and critical debate about its future. Our position is that the price we pay for a small increase in accuracy is contrary to the spirit of our game,” the Wolverhampton Premier League team said in an official resolution.
The 20 clubs in the English top division will meet on June 6 to discuss the matter. For VAR to be abolished, at least 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs must vote in favor.
The number of correct decisions made using VAR at the start of this season in England has increased from 82 per cent to 96 per cent. In April 2024, it became known that the Swedish Football Association abandoned the video replay system.
