UEFA may not allow Manchester City into the next Champions League
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) may not allow Manchester City to participate in the next Champions League. The Times reports this.
The City Football Group company simultaneously owns two clubs that have qualified for the Champions League for next season – the English Manchester City and the Spanish Girona. According to The Times, UEFA has sent a letter to City Football Group asking it to reduce its stake in one of the clubs to 30 percent so that Manchester City and Girona can take part in the tournament together.
City Football Group currently owns 100 percent of the English team and 47 percent of the Catalan club. It is reported that if the situation with shares in the clubs is not resolved, Girona may move from the Champions League to the Europa League.
Earlier it became known that Manchester City and Chelsea could be expelled from the English Premier League (EPL) for violating financial fair play rules. It is noted that the league’s independent commission notified the teams of the possibility of punishment. In order to be excluded, their guilt must be proven.
