Tennis player Khachanov demanded to be removed from the Olympics because of the St. George ribbon
Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov was demanded to be removed from participation in the Olympic Games in Paris due to the demonstration of the St. George ribbon. Championship.com writes about this.
Khachanov published a photo with the St. George ribbon on social networks on May 9. Some users complained about the tennis player to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The St. George’s ribbon is a prohibited symbol in the conditions of admission of Russians to the Games in Paris in 2024. According to IOC criteria, it violates the principle of neutral status of Russian athletes.
Earlier, IOC head Thomas Bach said that he asked Ukrainians to monitor the statements of Russian athletes in the media and on the Internet. “We offered to the Ukrainian side and not only offered, but also asked to provide us with their information about the behavior of such athletes or officials,” Bach noted. He added that athletes who spoke out in support of Russia would not be able to compete at the Olympics.
