Each athlete decides for himself whether to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games (OI-2024) or not, said State Duma deputy and Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova. So, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, she spoke about the fate of athletes who want to go to the Olympics.
“Everything is voiced by the president. He said that each athlete will decide for himself [участвовать ему или нет]. And such athletes (who want and can participate – approx. “Tapes.ru”) there will still be only a few, even if they exist. Therefore, everything will be decided very individually,” Zhurova said.

On May 14, the State Duma approved the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Mikhail Degtyarev, to the post of Minister of Sports of Russia. He noted that on the issue of the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics, he relies on the position of the country’s leadership.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status. However, they will not be able to take part in the parade of delegations at the opening ceremony of the Games.
