Registration period for the Behobia-San Sebastián is open
Euskaraz irakurri: Behobia-Donostiaren izen-emate orokorra abian da
This Tuesday, May 7, has been registration period open in the 59th edition of the race Behobia-San Sebastianas announced by the Fortuna Sports Club.
One of the most notable novelties of that year corresponds to the limit of participants, since there cannot be more than 27,000, 3,000 less than other years. This measure is due to rail service restrictions. Likewise, the works in the Irun Sales area will slightly affect the route, since it will be diverted.
According to the organization, train transportation plays an essential role during the day, since it is the means of transportation used (both Renfe and Euskotren) by half of the athletes. The Renfe service will suffer alterations due to the work on the tunnel through which the high-speed train will pass between Loiola and Capuchinos, and will directly affect the career. As a consequence, safe and comfortable transportation is not guaranteed.
With the aim of lightening the situation, the start of the race will be 15 minutes early. Thus, the participants in the wheelchair and handbike modalities will leave at 9:15 a.m.; Five minutes later, at 09:20, it will be the skaters’ turn, and finally, the rest of the skaters are expected to start at 09:40.
On the other hand, it must be taken into account that, due to the high-speed train works, the Elizatxo de Ventas avenue bridge in Irun has been demolished, The route will deviate about 220 meters along Letxunborro Avenue.
Consequently, the route will be 20 kilometers and 220 meters, and will remain that way for two more years, since the bridge is scheduled to be built again and the race will pass through there again.
